Energy consumption in production is a key factor influencing the CO₂ footprint of industrial companies. Within the scope of technical facility management, SPIE collects this data to enhance energy efficiency. Providing these data forms an essential foundation for our clients’ sustainability reporting and serves as a basis for deriving and monitoring optimization measures.

As a multi-technical service provider, we support our clients in improving energy efficiency by analyzing consumption data from building operations and implementing targeted optimization measures. A core part of our work is delivering all ESG- and CSRD-relevant data from building management. With increasing regulatory and reporting requirements, the demand for secure, cross-company data transfer solutions continues to grow.

Sustainability reports today require around 50 percent of their data points from the external value chain. Emissions data from building operations represent a significant portion of this. These data are a crucial foundation for OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and their sustainability reporting, as well as a starting point for developing and monitoring improvement measures.

Building on this, we aim to develop an Eco-Reporting tool compliant with ESG and CSRD standards. It will be based on energy consumption and efficiency optimization data from various source systems. During the three-month research project “ID Team @ ARENA2036” in 2023, the team focused on refining the project scope and defining clear objectives. Particular emphasis was placed on developing data models aligned with relevant guidelines and standards, especially the core EFRAG data points.

To enhance scalability and data security in Eco-Reporting data transmission, the team tested a new transfer method using the “Arena X” infrastructure, which is based on Catena X. By leveraging a collaborative data space, relevant data from internal and external sources can be shared securely and efficiently. Data spaces enable companies to share data safely and in a controlled manner without losing data sovereignty.

Another key milestone was building a prototype Eco-Reporting dashboard developed in close cooperation with a client. Combining consumption data and information on optimization measures from the SPIE BlueFM database offers clear benefits. Both current emissions and the impact of implemented measures are presented transparently and traceably.
