Automated Identification and Recording of Waste Types and Quantities
For reporting and documentation purposes, all construction site waste must be recorded and analyzed. A digital tool uses AI to filter, extract, and store data from documents within the ENAIO document management system.
There are various sustainability reports, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) requirements, and legally mandated documentations such as the Commercial Waste Ordinance and the Circular Economy Act. These require that all waste from construction sites and company locations be tracked and evaluated. Currently, this data collection is done manually: disposal receipts are reviewed, sorted, and relevant data on waste types and quantities are recorded and documented by hand across all SPIE locations nationwide.
Together with colleagues from bridgingIT, we are developing an AI-based solution that analyzes digitized invoices in the document management system, extracts relevant data, and transfers it via an interface to a waste management system.
This waste management system—offered by various providers on the market—processes and stores the data for the creation of reports and documentation, which can be accessed at any time. Examples include the “Abfallmanager” by ZEDAL or the eNATURE software solution from Axians eWaste.
The goal of this solution is not only to save valuable time and resources but also to automate processes and improve the accuracy of waste reporting. At the same time, it ensures that all types and quantities of waste generated and disposed of within the company are systematically recorded, stored, and aligned with current legal requirements. This enables a more sustainable and transparent waste management while increasing efficiency throughout the entire disposal process.
