Artificial Intelligence (AI) is more than just a buzzword—it is a key technology helping SPIE to make its processes future‑proof. With the development and pilot deployment of the GDPR‑compliant GenAI chatbot AIWA, SPIE demonstrates how AI can be applied in a focused way to optimize IT support and provide employees with a modern digital platform.

AIWA offers two core modes of operation. In the first mode, the chatbot leverages AI to resolve common IT issues quickly and efficiently. This functionality provides immediate relief for the IT department by automating routine requests. Drawing on an extensive internal knowledge base, the chatbot can seamlessly integrate even more complex inquiries into existing ticketing systems.

In the second mode, AIWA goes beyond IT support by utilizing state‑of‑the‑art Large Language Models (LLMs). In this mode, a wide range of general tasks and queries can be handled in a GDPR‑compliant manner.
