Digitalization of Shipping Processes for Mann+Hummel
bridgingIT, together with its subsidiary fastahead, supported Mann+Hummel — a global supplier company — in significantly optimizing processes at their outbound warehouse.
Mann+Hummel operates a filter production site in Speyer. Until now, pallets needed for truck dispatch were manually searched, resulting in long search and handling times. The goal was to drastically reduce these times, minimize errors, and increase customer satisfaction.
The outbound warehouse faced several challenges: pallets were delivered and stored without fixed locations or digital tracking, leading to inefficient and complicated retrieval processes during truck loading.
To address these issues, bridgingIT implemented an efficient solution by setting up an infrastructure equipped with location tracking technology. Pallets are now located using ultra-wideband (UWB) positioning and identified via barcode. Warehouse personnel receive pallet locations on handheld devices, simplifying the search significantly.
The solution leverages several tools and methods: the omlox™ standard, Deep Hub™ middleware, UWB tracking, barcode identification, and ACD handhelds as front-end devices.
Thanks to digital tracking, warehouse staff now always know the exact location of each pallet. It results in several benefits: search times were significantly reduced, enabling truck loading processes to be on average 20% faster. Additionally, error rates decreased, and the return on investment (ROI) was achieved within approximately 13 months.
