SPIE Football Challenge Cup 2023

288 PLAYERS COMPETED FOR SPOTS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH IN DÜSSELDORF

Our annual SPIE Football Challenge Cup took place in Düsseldorf on 22 April. Nearly 300 employees from all operational divisions from Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic showed off their team spirit as they competed in exciting matches to qualify for the SPIE Football Cup in Vienna, where the best teams from all SPIE Group countries and units will be vying for the top spots on 17 and 18 June.

Markus Holzke, Managing Director / CEO of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa, plays with colleagues every year for a spot in the championship match. In our interview, he tells us what football means to him.

‘Things always fall into place on the pitch’

We spoke about the tournament with a few of the nearly 300 football enthusiasts – some a bit exhausted but all in good spirits – before, after and between the matches.

‘The tournament is going really well’

Stefanie Krecht has been the organiser of the SPIE Football Challenge Cup in Düsseldorf since 2016. On a day of perfect weather, she tells us which team she has her fingers crossed for.

Besides good jobs, activities and events like the annual football tournament that recently took place in Düsseldorf are among the things that make for a positive workplace where employees feel good and can make their best effort. The eight best teams will travel to the international SPIE tournament in Vienna, but the players from every team can feel like winners.

Reducing urban energy consumption is one of the keys to a climate-friendly future, with digitalisation playing an important role. For example, smart solutions enable streetlights to be controlled efficiently and used as charging stations for electric vehicles, as our colleagues in Dortmund show.

Working on the mobility transition

Christian Wasmeier works to improve charging infrastructure

Christian Wasmeier has been Project Manager in the Energy & Mobility Solutions branch of the CityNetworks & Grids Operational Division in Ergolding since 2019. By providing end-to-end project management, he helps customers expand their charging infrastructure. That includes analysing sites, drawing up a usage-based charging plan, and planning the integration of charging infrastructure in the power grid.

Successful year for the SPIE Group in 2022

The SPIE Group can look back on a successful 2022. Our outstanding performance with organic growth of 6.9% reflects the growing demand for solutions for a net zero economy. Revenue in 2022 was € 8.1 billion, of which 46% was green according to the EU taxonomy.

Dual study programme

SPIE signs partnership agreement

In future, students will be able to earn a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg in Brandenburg in a dual study programme with SPIE. The partnership agreement was signed in March 2023. The first student will begin her studies in the winter term of 2023 at BTU and in the CityNetworks & Grids East region, where exciting projects from e-mobility to hydrogen await her.

A selection of current customer projects

As a multi-technical service provider for buildings, plants and infrastructure, SPIE has an extensive service portfolio. Replacing natural gas with green hydrogen in production processes, managing technical facilities in buildings, or undertaking planning permission for overhead line renovations: our staff work on-site for our customers.

Implementation in less than six months

LNG infrastructure for industrial customer

Due to potential gas supply bottlenecks, industrial customers are increasingly making preparations for the network-independent supply of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) in tanks. In six months, teams from our CityNetworks & Grids Operational Division implemented the infrastructure to supply Zapp Precision Metals in Schwerte with LNG. SPIE provided centralised consulting, planning, design and project management services.

Comprehensive technical facility management

Energy-efficient operation

SPIE has been granted a contract extension for the technical facility management in Caffamacherreihe, which is notably home to the district office for Hamburg’s Mitte district, the Senate Chancellery and offices of JET Tankstellen Deutschland GmbH and Stadtküche GmbH. For four years, our team has provided services for nearly all building facilities in an area covering some 90,000 square metres. To optimise energy consumption, this year our team will manage the conversion to LED lighting in the leased areas of the Hamburg-Mitte administrative offices and other parts of the building.

Planning permission for Pfalzwerke Netz AG

Overhead power line upgrade

Power line upgrades are an essential part of the energy transition. When repairs or new constructions to strengthen the grid are planned, the first step is to seek planning permission. Among the responsibilities of the team headed by Christoph Schobeß from SPIE’s CeGIT unit (Dr Stefanie Flethe, André Hoffmann, Irina Nowak, Didem Öztek and Ferhat Yücel) are easement negotiations with property owners along the corridors and planning for pylons in environmentally sensitive areas.

Electrothermography

Sometimes a loose screw on a piece of electrical equipment is enough: a lot of heat is released, but it’s not visible to the naked eye. If it’s too much, damage or even electrical fires can result. To prevent such scenarios, SPIE performs maintenance and repairs using thermography.
