SPIE Football Cup 2023: Thank you, Vienna!

Bright sunshine, 32 highly motivated teams, one cup: That was this year’s SPIE Football Cup, which took place on 17 June in Vienna. After a hard day’s play, Baden Power Sasbach beat the team from Switzerland in the final, while third place went to the RheinRuhrRonaldos.

Gauthier Louette, Chair & CEO of SPIE; Markus Holzke, Managing Director / CEO of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa, who had also played earlier that day; and Gerald Edler, Managing Director of SPIE CEMA, a unit of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa in Austria, presented the medals for the participants and the cup for the winning team. In addition to the challenge cup, this year there is also a trophy that will stay with the winning team. In future it will be at the SPIE CityNetworks & Grids site in Sasbach in Baden-Württemberg.

Holzke praised the organising team: ‘Heartfelt thanks to the event team, who organised this tournament with motivation, dedication and passion. We were all very pleased that SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa got to organise the SPIE Football Cup this year, and we’d be happy to host it again.’

‘It was a pleasure and an honour for my team and me to organise this year’s tournament in Vienna. We hope everybody will have fond memories of their time in Vienna,’ remarked Gerald Edler during the ceremony after the tournament.
